Charter Partner Rules
Every Boy Scout Troop has a charter partner, the organization that
sponsors the troop.
Solomon Schechter Day School of Essex and Union in West Orange is
the chartering organization for Boy Scout Troop 118, West Orange,
NJ, in the Orange Mountains District of the Northern New Jersey Council,
Boy Scouts of America. The school has the following expectations
of all Scouts and Adult Leaders:
- All Troop, Patrol and individual Scouting activities will be
conducted in compliance with acceptable Shabbat activities as
defined by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism and the
Solomon Schechter Day School of Essex and Union. This includes
participation and travel to and from all Scouting activities.
- All Troop, Patrol and individual Scouting activities will be
conducted in compliance with acceptable Kashrut standards as
defined by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism and the
Solomon Schechter Day School of Essex and Union. This includes
food purchased or consumed while traveling to activities and
during the activities.
- All male participants, and any female participants who
would normally wear a head covering, must wear either a hat
or kipah whenever involved in Scouting activities.
- It is to be understood that any person wearing a Scout
uniform with the Troop number, 118, is a defacto representative
of Solomon Schechter Day School of Essex and Union and is
thereby expected to behave in a manner consistent with the
operating principles of the school.
